Reflections on the first day

Thoughts of the Day

June,1,2009

  1. Today's youth Summit was full of intriguing activities. I was blown away by the number of teens my age who are interested in food hunger. Although I was introduced to this summit last minute by my mother i am very "eager" to learn about poverty and hunger in the greater Atlanta. I think that this summit is a great start on helping students such as myself then go out and further explore the different things that we as teenagers can do to invoke change in not only our community but friends and family around us. So often we are unaware of the word food. Today we explored in dept what food means to each individual. Food can be one of many things which includes but are not limited to culture,a sense of security, nutriment, survival, family, etc. When you sit back and think of those children who do not have food. you then begin to see that are missing out on these vital essence that are very vital in a child's life.

  2. The Atlanta Community Food Banks mission is to "Fight hunger by engaging, educating, and empowering our community" the area which appeals to me the most although they all work hand and hand with one another is educating. Educating people about everyday things which effect our nation as a whole is what makes us a strong nation. I believe that without education we would have nothing. Being able to work hand and hand with your peers as well as those you've never met before can invoke change in our community. People can learn valuable things from one another. Brainstorming ideas and sharing ways you believe that you can help to empower our community is just the beginning. But yet a very vital part in Atlanta food Banks mission.

I cant wait to further more begin my quest to expanding my knowledge on the issue of hunger through out this hole week. I also hope to take away some great ideas to start to speak out against this issue and begin to if not change the world be that person to help spark the brain of others to change it.

Today was such an exciting and inspirational day. I learned sooo much about ACFB, the community it serves, and the many lives it impacts. I feel honored to be apart of a new founded family that has a passion for service and a mindset for change. I can't wait to see what else is in store for us this week and I hope to take it back to my community so that they can learn from this and hopefully get involved in the fight as well.
